Sheriff Kevin Sproul honors two employees
ALBANY, GA. -- Dougherty County Sheriff Kevin Sproul recognizes two if his employees at the Dougherty County Commission meeting Monday morning.
Corporal Tommy Bruce was named the “Dougherty County Sheriff’s Department Employee of the Year” and Officer Gary Harris is the “Dougherty County Jail Employee of the Year”.
Corporal Bruce was the official who arrested the man who fatally shot Cliff Rouse on Christmas Eve 2010. Sheriff Sproul says he wins the award because even though backup was on the way, he was the person who encountered the suspect without knowledge if the gun used in the shooting was full or empty. “He detained a cop killer” says Sproul.
Officer Harris was able to subdue and arrest an inmate who knocked out a deputy and tried to escape while receiving medical treatment at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. “He hasn’t even been here three full years, but it just goes to show how hard he works at his job. One officer was down and it could have been two if he wasn’t careful when handling the inmate” says Sproul.
The sheriff’s office has given out the awards for numerous years and says they plan to continue the tradition. “Whether its behind bars as a detention officer in jail or out on the streets. Every day they confront situations that they could have to sacrifice their life and they deserve this recognition for their efforts” says Sproul.
