Southwest Regional Airport cancels Christmas Day flights; travelers find limited connections in Atlanta

ALBANY, GA -- A winter storm in the north drops large amounts of snow and causes delays for holiday travelers in Southwest Georgia.

The Southwest Georgia Regional Airport says it cancelled all of its Christmas Day flights. Officials made the decision Christmas Eve because of the pending storm.

Airport Director Yvette Aehle says Delta notified all passengers in advance and put them on standby for the next available flights.

“Everything leaving out of Albany is normal but we don’t know what’s happening once you get to Atlanta. It depends on where you need to go. Obviously if you’re in the northeast you’re going to have a problem getting up there, but at least everything from here is slated to operate as normal,” says Aehle.

Scott Petersen, agent at Greyhound in Downtown Albany, says buses ran as scheduled to Atlanta this weekend and helped with other Christmas Day delays.

He says routes heading north to New York and Washington D.C. are cancelled at this time and there are limited connections going out of Atlanta.
