ALBANY, GA -- AAA officials say Thanksgiving travel in Georgia is projected to increase by about 11% this year.

This is the first time the state has seen an increase since 2007. Albany alone has also seen an increase; Southwest Georgia Regional Airport has seen an 18% increase in travel this year.

And with airfare up about 4%, AAA Spokeswoman Jessica Brady say people should anticipate the average airfare to cost about $170. “You take that 170, multiply it by a family of four and tack on baggage fees, food, other amenities; it’s too costly to travel by air,” says Brady.

About 1.2 million Georgians are traveling for Thanksgiving this year, 1.1 million of those are traveling by car. And for those who are taking to the air this holiday, airport officials ask travelers to arrive early so there is ample time to go through new procedures. Officials also recommend keeping your travel outfits light in order to make your travel easier.
