ALBANY, GA -- The American Cancer Society is promoting a smoke free lifestyle for Americans Thursday as part of its 35th Annual Great American Smokeout.

According to the American Cancer Society, about a third of all cancer deaths in the U.S. are caused by tobacco. That’s why it is trying to help smokers kick the habit.

Diane Shillcutt is with the American Cancer Society. She says in order to keep more people from taking up smoking, you have to get to the root of the problem. “We need to get the word out there, that this is not a cool thing. It’s going to be very harmful to you and once you start smoking you’ve already damaged your lungs,” says Shillcutt.

To help you kick smoking in the butt, go to the American Cancer Society’s website or call 1-800-227-2345 for more information on getting help.
