KADB wins the top honor for overall programs
ALBANY, GA. -- The state office is honoring Keep Albany Dougherty Beautiful for their participation in cleaning up Southwest Georgia.
Keep Albany Dougherty Beautiful won first place for overall programs from Keep Georgia Beautiful and second place for overall programs for Keep America Beautiful.
Some of the cleanup programs include the following:
- Planting more than 6,000 trees
- “Stash the Trash” with 2,700 volunteers
- 1,000 5th grade students participating in the Water Festival
- "Operation Pill Drop" collaboration with law enforcement to collect more than 300 pounds of expired, unused, or unwanted prescription drugs.
- Collecting three tons of debris from the Flint River
Judy Bowles, Director of Keep Albany Dougherty Beautiful says her office only has three employees so they couldn’t have achieved this award without the help from thousands of volunteers. “The awards really belong to our citizens. They’ve bought into our programs and volunteered at our events. They do a great job and Keep Albany Dougherty Beautiful is in reality the citizens of Albany, Georgia” says Bowles.
Keep Albany Dougherty Beautiful says over the past three years the dollar value for the amount of work from the volunteers would be $15 million dollars if they were getting paid for their service to the community.
