ALBANY, GA -- A Dougherty County Police program has been awarded a grant from the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety.

The Highway Enforcement of Aggressive Traffic, or HEAT unit, received almost $16,000 in grant money from the state. The unit works to reduce impaired driving crashes, reduce speeding, and educate the public about traffic safety.

Lt. Tom Jackson says they grant helps them staff their unit. “We run a two man unit but we’ve always had one in kind officer and this money always helps us fund one of those officers,” says Jackson.

20 other high-risk locations across the state also received the grant.
