Albany's new Center for the Blind held an open house Friday

ALBANY, GA -- Albany's new Center for the Blind held an open house Friday.

The center is set to open in about two weeks. It will house 8 to 12 people to teach them essential skills that are routine for everybody else but much more difficult for the blind.

“Our purpose is to teach blind and vision impaired individuals to become independent and self-sufficient in their homes by providing a skilled, trained environment,” said Collie Robinson

Officials say they plan to start taking clients on November 1. The center will serve Dougherty and 14 other surrounding counties.
