ALBANY, GA -- An advocacy webinar was held on Thursday in hopes of spreading the word about cervical and breast cancer screenings to not only women but to commissioners as well. Women from Samaritan’s Clinic arranged the webinar to help those interested in promoting early screening for cancers in women.
Professionals from the clinic say less than ten percent of breast cancer is because of genetics. That’s why they want to help more women get screened and cured.
“It’s very important for the community to understand what we need to do in order to improve outcomes for women who are diagnosed with breast cancer or those that don’t’ really know the importance of why they need to be screened for breast and cervical cancer,” says Executive Director of Samaritan’s Clinic Nedra Fortson.
Fortson says women should begin screening at 40 years old. If there is history of breast cancer in the family she says to begin earlier. Fortson advises people to be checked for cervical and breast cancer annually.
