Democrat Joe Morgan addressed the Albany Rotary Club

ALBANY, GA -- The Albany Rotary Club heard from one of the candidates for State School Superintendent on Thursday.

Joe Martin told the group that schools are experiencing too many furlough days and that students deserve adequate funding to get the education they need.

He also said that the state has gone overboard on standardized tests and stressed his own educational background.

"We need somebody as state school superintendent who understands the finances of education, who respects teachers, who sees the big picture," said Martin.

Martin faces Republican John Barge in the November election.
