More and more commercial businesses are popping up around Lee County

LEE COUNTY, GA. -- Thursday morning's Heritage Bank groundbreaking comes just one day after the new Publix grand opening; and it seems this may be just the beginning of new businesses making their way into Lee County. While other areas of Southwest Georgia are hurting economically, it leaves you wondering why Lee County looks to be thriving. Publix, Heritage Bank, and CVS are all opening up near one another.

Lee County Commissioner Ed Duffy says the county is appealing to many people. “We're a quality of community, we have a low tax rate, one of the lowest millage rates in the state, and we have one of the best school systems in the state. So people want to come to Lee County “says Duffy.

Officials say Lee County is the 8th fastest growing county in Georgia. They believe eliminating commercial and industrial impact fees a few years ago has made building in Lee County more desirable.
