Lightning kills teenager

ALBANY, GA. -- Tuesday night around 5:00, one teenager was killed and another is in critical condition following a lightning strike in Austell just outside Atlanta.

Lightning strikes are not as uncommon as you might think. So far this year, lightning has caused 10 fatalities.

In 2009, a total of 34 people died as a result of lightning and hundreds more were wounded.

The chances of getting hit by lightning in your lifetime are just 1 in 3,000.

Remember that if anyone is hit by lightning, they do not carry an electrical charge. Administer CPR and call 9-1-1 immediately.
