ALBANY, GA -- Only three weeks to go before students are back in school, and that means it’s time to start stocking up on supplies. But this year Georgia Legislature is not letting the annual sales-tax-free back-to-school weekend happen. With a $2 billion budget deficit, the legislature decided the state can’t afford the $12 million cost in revenue.

Shopper Marcus-Antonio Gunn says not having a tax free weekend isn't going to stop him from shopping, however it will affect how much he buys. “It’s going to decrease the quantity of what I actually have to buy because now I will have to pay the taxes on these things and this is the one time of year when you get to actually splurge and go all out. So it’s going to definitely hurt” says Gunn.

Businesses say the tax fee weekend is one of the busiest times of the year. But some shops are taking extra measures to keep people coming through the door.
