An open house lets the community donate or scan memorabilia into the institute’s collection
The Civil Rights Institute held an open house today and invited the public to bring their Civil Rights memorabilia to donate or be scanned into the official collection.
More than two dozen people brought pictures, newspaper clippings, and other documents to add to the museum’s collection.
Executive Director Lee Formwalt says it’s important for the community to participate because it will help tell a more complete story of that time period in Albany. “It’s critical that we have access to these things because there are the things that tell us the story of the past. We already have a good idea of what that story is, but there were many blank spaces, and these documents and photographs help fill in those blank spaces” says Formwalt.
If you have anything you would like to contribute to the Albany Civil Rights Institute you can visit during regular business hours to have it added to the collection.
