U.S. Marshalls help local police catch an Atlanta man wanted in Dougherty County for internet crimes against children.
Police say 29-year-old Bryan Stern of Atlanta thought he was chatting with a 14-year-old girl. He really was really talking to an undercover Dougherty County cop. Captain Jimmy Sexton says Stern never came to Albany to try and make contact with an underage girl, but says the sexually explicit internet conversations alone were enough to charge him with a crime.
“The gentleman is charged with sexual exploitation of children and obscene internet contact with a child. That's pretty self-explanatory,” said Sexton.
U.S. Marshalls arrested Stern in Atlanta and transferred him to Dougherty County. This investigation has been going on since May 7th. The sting is part of the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
“Their ultimate goal, generally, is to actually make contact with these children to have sexual intercourse or worse.”
Sexton says the internet is becoming more and more dangerous with more and more child predators on the loose. And he wants you talking with your kids about being safe while on the web.
“Put the computer in some common place in the household where parents can also have access. Just be real vigilant.”
