Police confirm one fatality in car and semi accident on West Oakridge Drive

ALBANY, GA -- An Albany woman is killed on impact in an early morning crash on West Oakridge Drive. It’s the first fatal crash for Dougherty County this Memorial Day weekend.

Police say 36-year-old Tony Jenkins, driving a Florida Rock & Tank Lines tractor trailer, pulled onto Oakridge Drive from Magellan Terminals Holding around 7:40 Monday morning. Police say he turned in front of a Nissan.

“The Nissan struck the rear of the Florida truck lines,” said Albany Police Corporal Jon Segroves.

25-year-old Ebonie Stokes died on impact. They don’t believe speed was a factor.

“The speed limit in this area is 45 miles per hour so she would’ve been traveling somewhere around that speed.”

Segroves says Stokes was traveling east down Oakridge towards Slappey Boulevard. The tractor trailer was turning right to travel east as well. Police are still investigating whether or not anything could’ve prevented the crash.

“If any charges are made they’ll be made at a later date, but it is still under review and investigation,” Segroves said.

For three hours police shut down Oakridge Drive from Old Pretoria Lane to Willie Pitts, Jr. Road. They had to transfer the gas on Jenkins’ truck to another and clean up the rest of the scene. The road is now reopened.

“Any time you have a crash of this nature you have a lot of units that do respond. One to secure, this involving a gas truck, we wanted to make sure that the scene was and the area was still safe.”

Police say Stokes was wearing her seatbelt.
