The Wilson Hospice House opened its doors Sunday

Albany Community Hospice has a new home and a one-of-a-kind facility in southwest Georgia.

The Wilson Hospice House opened its doors Sunday. The 39,000-square-foot building can accommodate 18 hospice patients. It can be for patients who need a few days of specialized care or who want to spend their last days at the facility. It has an indoor and outdoor chapel, walking trail, and a bird sanctuary.

“As death approaches, that patients and his family can come to this peaceful, quiet, nurturing environment for the very end of life,” said Wilson Hospice House Medical Director Dr. Lane Mathis Price.

The project cost $13 million. 4,000 people and groups contributed money to the cause. It is located at 320 Foundation Lane off Westover Boulevard.
