Cuts would affect the way County police patrol the streets
The Dougherty County Finance team says they need to make more cuts to reduce a $2 million general fund shortfall.
County administrator, Richard Crowdis is recommending a 5% cut across the board in the form of twelve furlough days in the next fiscal year. Dougherty County Police Chief Don Cheek would have to reduce patrolling functions by 96 hours. For a station with 23 patrol officers that average 3,000 calls a month, he says that's going to take major orchestration, especially if officers decide to leave.
Chief cheek: this is going to take an officer off about every shift probably. We're gonna have to juggle our staff accordingly, it will create problems working around court schedules and emergency events.
The recommendation will be official if the County Commission approves the budget in June.
