Haz-mat crews had to monitor an east Albany gas station Monday afternoon.

Firefighters say a woman driving a U-Haul hit a gas pump at the Flash Foods on East Oakridge Drive. The truck’s fuel tank broke open and about five gallons of gas spilled on the ground. Firefighters stood by just in case.

“We try to prepare for worst case scenarios,” said Battalion Chief Kelly Harcrow. “With fuel on the ground, flash fire potential was there being this close to the fuel pump as well as being under the vehicle.”

The gas station is responsible for cleaning up the spill.
