Police found Culbert innocent of abuse and dog fighting, but the Humane Society is charging Culbert more than $1,000 to retrieve his dogs

As we reported Monday the Albany Police Department confiscated 21 dogs from Carey Culbert’s home on suspicion that he was involved with recent dog fighting.  Today police alerted him that he was not being charged with cruelty to animals or any involvement with dog fighting and that he could retrieve his dogs from the Humane Society.

However when Culbert went to get his dogs the Humane Society reportedly told him that it would cost more than $1,000 because someone had to pay for the food, housing, and care for the dogs.  Culbert was also reportedly told that it will be an extra $120 per day to house the dogs moving forward.

Culbert says he doesn’t blame APD for investigating him because they were following proper protocol, however he thinks since they took his dogs without warning that they should pay the fees the Humane Society is charging.
