Part of 7th Avenue in Albany was closed Tuesday around the railroad crossing for repairs.

The City's engineering department got a call Tuesday morning from the railroad company saying they needed to repair cross ties. If it had gone on without repair, trains would have been in danger of derailing.

“Cross ties go bad from time to time, they crush or break and I would assume that if the track starts to sag a little bit they've got to pull it out, put a new one underneath it,” said Traffic Engineering Manager, Randy Casagrande.

Work crews were finished by three Tuesday afternoon.
