Georgia Department of Transportation has moved the project near the top of their list

Plans to rebuild the Broad Avenue Bridge are in the works.

The City Commission heard the news at Tuesday’s meeting. The City will pay about $200,000 to pay for the design, then 20% of the total project cost, which is estimated at $8 million. The closing of the bridge put incredible strain on the Oglethorpe bridge, which is prone to backing up during rush hour. An average of 10,000 cars a day used to cross the Broad Avenue bridge.

Construction is expected to begin this time next year and will take a year to complete.
