It will cost the Sheriff's department more to send evidence to the crime lab in Macon, which will affect the taxpayers

Taxpayers may have to shell out some more cash because the crime lab in Moultrie is closing down.

Dougherty County Sheriff Kevin Sproul and his staff were notified of the closing. Sheriff Sproul says they'll have to send their evidence to the crime lab in Macon. However, where it was once a two hour turnaround to send evidence to Moultrie, it will now take closer to a six hour turnaround to send it to Macon, which will cost taxpayers more and will take longer to get crooks behind bars.

The largest crime lab is in Atlanta.
