Authorities say an audit of the Utility Authority’s financials is being done and they will have more information when that is finished. The allegations stem from employees possibly borrowing money for personal use and writing IOU’s to the Authority and not repaying the money. GBI agents say interviews of employees have been done and will continue.

Prior to July 1st 2009, billing and payment for water, sewer, and garbage were handled by the county.  Since then the Utility Authority, a separate entity, has taken it over. County officials say if the investigation reveals that the improper use of funds happened prior to July 1st 2009 then the county will get involved.
