Live Oak Elementary practiced a tornado drill Wednesday as part of Severe Weather Awareness week
Wednesday started out like any other day for Live Oak Elementary students, but that would soon change.
Around 9:15 a.m., a loud noise, signaling a tornado drill, rang out across classrooms. Students lined up at the door, proceeded to the hallway, got on their knees and covered their head. According to Kindergarten teacher, Nekiela Wilson, the students did exactly what they were supposed to do. This week is Severe Weather Awareness week and Jim Vaught, EMA Deputy Director with the Albany Fire Department says everyone should be prepared.
Vaught says every family should put together a 72-hour emergency kit and have a plan ready and rehearsed so that when a natural disaster strikes, they will be ready.
