Bed bugs are small, they bite at night, and they're becoming a problem for some Southwest Georgians

David Reed of Adams Exterminators says three years ago he never had phone calls about bed bugs, but now he gets three to four calls a month about them.
He says bed bugs travel beyond your mattress to surrounding areas such as box springs, dressers, and picture frames.
Adams Exterminators say they have treated Albany homes, businesses, and even a couple hotels for bed bugs.
Dr. George Frederick with Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital says you usually won’t know you have bed bugs until mysterious bites or blisters start to appear on your skin.
If you suspect your bed of having bed bugs pest control experts advise to check bed sheets for little blood stains and check mattress cracks for bed bugs which look like pepper spots.
Dr. Frederick says there’s no need to panic about catching diseases from a bed bug because medical professionals don’t believe they transmit anything.
Experts say bed bugs can live without feeding on human blood for longer than six months so it can be difficult to pinpoint when the bugs arrived.
