(AP) -- Organizers of a cleanup at West Point Lake are hoping for a record turnout to help remove debris from the big lake.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers spokesman David Barr says more than the usual amount of debris wound up in the big lake on the Alabama-Georgia line this year because of the heavy rains in September.

Barr says the Corps and the West Point Lake Coalition, which sponsors the cleanup, are looking for a record 500 volunteers to show up at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Earl Cook Park.

Barr says water is still high after the wet fall and a second cleanup, using pontoon boats to get to hard-to-reach areas,
probably will take place in March. Pontoon and land sites usually are cleaned at the same time.
