Appeal has been withdrawn

An Albany police officer resigns rather than be fired by the city.

Police officials say Corporal Sherman Battle submitted his letter of resignation effective October 27th rather than face termination for unethical conduct. The City Manager's office says it was their intention to fire Battle after he was allegedly caught gambling, associating with known criminals, and borrowing money from criminal contacts.

Battle’s termination could have been appealed but he withdrew a letter seeking an appeal.
