The man accused of trying to lure school children into his van made his first appearance in a Dougherty County court today.

A judge denied bond for 36-year-old Kenneth Kellam who is a registered sex offender in Florida.  Law enforcement officials arrested Kellam this week and charged him with two counts of criminal attempt to entice a child for indecent purposes, two counts of attempted child molestation, and one count of failure to register as a sex offender. School police notified authorities in Florida about Kellam's arrest due to the death investigation of Somer Thompson. Federal agents were present at the forensic search of Kellam's van. Thursday, Dougherty County School Police added more charges against Kellam. Two counts criminal attempt to commit aggravated sodomy and two counts attempt to commit false imprisonment were filed after items in Kellam's van were recovered.

Police say Kellam was trying to target children who were walking home from school. Authorities say Kellam will remain in jail until trial or until his attorney makes a petition for another bond hearing.
