Most know that when it rains, it’s a prime time to fish, but none have been biting at Ken Gardens Pond.

The Department of Natural Resources Fisheries Division is killing then removing all the “trash fish” and will restock the six-acre pond with channel catfish.  The move is made in preparation for a kids fishing event in the spring says Fisheries Management Supervisor Rob Weller.

“Sometimes the pond will get competitive species in them, the channel catfish will move in through the creeks and the drains, and when that happens we’ll have a bunch of little small fish in there that’ll compete with the catfish we put in there that we want to be able to grow for the kids to catch, which won’t happen if all of the other fish are in there,” said Weller.

DNR will begin restocking Ken Gardens Pond in late November or early December with nearly 2,000 channel catfish.
