Some are saying the new program will not benefit minoriy-owned small businesses

Doubts were raised in Monday’s Dougherty County Commission meeting about the validity of the recent disparity study and the Small Business Office.

Reverend Rance Pettibone argues that the group who did the study, BBC, did not take into account the private sector when determining if there was discrimination. However, director Pinky Modeste says facts are facts. The new Small Business Office will continue to help start and grow small businesses and help them obtain government bids. Modeste says there will also be actions put in place to make sure all small businesses get help.

Pettibone believes the County should bring back a race-conscious program, even though it was deemed unconstitutional by the state.
