A condemned apartment building is demolished after more than a year of being vacant

The city of Albany demolished an apartment complex at the corner of Odom Avenue and South Jefferson Street.

Albany’s Department of Public Works knocked down the two story complex this afternoon and will take the next few days to transport the wreckage to the landfill.

The complex was condemned after a fire more than a year ago.

Phil Roberson, Dept. of Public Works Director says the demolition should make neighbors feel a little safer knowing that there is one less hang out spot for unwanted company.
