The state Board of Regents approved the cost-cutting measure during a meeting in Atlanta on Wednesday

Employees at Georgia's colleges and universities will take six furlough days this school year.

The state Board of Regents approved the cost-cutting measure during a meeting in Atlanta on Wednesday.  The move is expected to save $42 million.  The board also heard plans from Georgia's 35 campuses to slash up to $176 million, or 8 percent, from their budgets, including raising student fees, cutting jobs and increasing class sizes.

That's on top of the $275 million that was carved out of colleges' budgets last fiscal year.
