"Sara brought tourism to the next level."

The life of a great Albany woman has ended.  Sara Underdown, the Former President of the Albany Convention and Visitors Bureau was taken off life support Monday night following a four year battle with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

While the doors were open for business at the Albany Welcome Center and the Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday, employees’ thoughts were far from work.  Many learned the tragic news of about their friend’s passing.

One colleague said about Underdown, “Sara brought tourism to the next level.”

But Sara wasn’t always about work; she leaves behind a blended family of seven children and her husband Chip.  Meanwhile, her legacy will continue says Welcome Center Manager Rashelle Beasley.

“Bring heads into beads, that was her saying, and it’s great that we can continue on with her mission.  As we work today even, I say we are going to have an extra pep in our step to give more hospitality just in honor of her,” said Beasley.

Sara Underdown was 51.
