Severe thunderstorms with winds up to 50 miles per hour rolled through southwest Georgia Sunday afternoon.

No one was hurt, but the storms left a big mess. Several trees came down on and near Ramsey Road, and the Victory Tabernacle Church on Sylvester Road lost its sign and awning.  A service was in progress when the storm hit and Pastor Jose Mendoza says the winds were so bad, he thought it was a tornado.

“I saw things blowing away and I came to the door, locked it and ran back because I saw the front of it, the building went out. When I got everybody back in the hallway I heard just the shingles just getting ripped apart,” Mendoza said.
