Investigators with the Albany Fire Department are still looking into what sparked a chemical fire at the Equinox Chemical Plant Wednesday night.

Authorities say there was an ignition point near acetylene tanks.  Jason Pate, a chemical operator at the plant, received burns to over seventy percent of his body.  He's been transported to the Burn Unit in Augusta.  Plant owner Mark Grimaldi says it's a devastating situation.

“Right now we're just worrying about Jason and his family and our most important asset are our people and as a small business it's a family, it really is.  We’re just concerned about Jason right now and making sure his family's got the support they need,” said Grimaldi.

Grimaldi says the business has halted operations to complete a full investigation.
