Jury returns guilty verdict against 18-year-old Vincent Soilberry for murdering 3-year-old boy
An Albany jury returns a guilty verdict in the murder trial of 18-year-old Vincent Soilberry.
Soilberry was found guilty of the May 2008 beating death of his girlfriend’s 3-year-old son, Shondarius Roney. The jury returned a guilty verdict on all 6 counts, including malice murder and felony murder. Prosecutors say Soilberry severely beat the young boy before placing him in a bathtub to simulate drowning, to cover up the crime. Police initially responded to a drowning at the boy’s mother’s home on South Jackson Avenue, May 2. When first responders couldn’t revive Roney, the county’s Child Death Investigative Unit was summoned. According to the indictments, Soilberry “beat the 3-year-old in the head, chest and torso, resulting in “a lacerated liver, fractured ribs, bruising about the body and contusions to the lungs and heart.”
Immediately following the reading of the verdict, Judge Denise Marshall sentenced Soilberry to life in prison plus 40 years.
