Jury selection begins for an Albany man accused of killing his girlfriend’s 3-year-old son.

18-year-old Vincent Soilberry is named in a six-count indictment charging him with malice murder and felony murder in the death of 3-year-old Shondarius Roney.  According to the indictment, Soilberry is accused of beating Roney before placing him in a bathtub to simulate drowning, to cover up the crime.  Police initially responded to a drowning at the boy’s mother’s home on South Jackson Avenue, May 2.  When first responders couldn’t revive Roney, the county’s Child Death Investigative Unit was called in.

The indictment states that Soilberry “maliciously” beat the 3-year-old in the head, chest and torso, resulting in “a lacerated liver, fractured ribs, bruising about the body and contusions to the lungs and heart.”
