ALBANY, GA. --

The Albany-Dougherty Inner City Authority (ADICA) is slowly making a positive transformation in downtown Albany. The board is working to light up the town.

If you drive through the Old Northside community at night there's a lack of street lights. The ADICA board has voted to front $300,000 of their money to fix the problem.

“It will actually make citizens feel safer. You will be able to actually see where you're going of course,” says Lanicia Hart, ADICA board member.

ADICA president, Aaron Blair, says safety is a major concern for the area but the new streetlights will add even more than safety to the city.

“Aesthetically it's just going to definitely change that neighborhood. You'll see an amazing transformation over the next couple years,” says Aaron Blair.

Money spent for the project will be reimbursed from SPLOST funds.

The look of the Old Northside community isn't all officials are working to change. The ADICA board has approved funding a set of canoe launch pads for the Flint River.

“Obviously it's a huge asset that we have downtown. So our canoe kayak launch sites are really important for us and it's just a process that's going to take us a while to get through,” says Aaron Blair.

While that project isn't slated to begin until next summer, the ADICA board is sponsoring one event that'll draw out hundreds this holiday season.

The ‘Feed the Homeless’ program will do just as the name says, feed the homeless and many others on Thanksgiving Day.
