(AP) -- HOLYFIELD-WIFE DISPUTE
Boxer Evander Holyfield named in protective order

FAYETTEVILLE, GA (AP) - The wife of boxing great Evander
Holyfield has filed for a protective order against her husband in
Fayette County.
According to documents filed last week in Fayette County
Superior Court, Candi Holyfield accuses her 47-year-old husband of
a violent act against her in the presence of the couple's two
children.
In a petition obtained by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution,
Candi Holyfield accuses her husband of hitting her in the face,
head, and on her back.
The Holyfields were married July 1, 2003 in a Fayette County
courtroom. Local police did not immediately return a call to The
Associated Press. A person who answered the phone at a number
listed for Candi Holyfield Wednesday evening said she was not home.
The Associated Press could not immediately reach Holyfield for
comment.

HAITI-MISSING AMERICANS
Body of missing student found in Haiti

MIAMI (AP) - The body of a Lynn University student reported
missing in Haiti after last month's earthquake has been recovered.
Lynn University officials say the U.S. Department of State
contacted the family of 23-year-old Courtney Hayes Wednesday to
confirm the young woman's death. Hayes, of Douglas, Ga., was one of
four students still unaccounted for in Haiti. Two faculty members
and three students remain missing.
Hayes' body was found in the wreckage of the Hotel Montana in
Port-au-Prince. The missing students and professors were also
inside the hotel when the earthquake struck.
Hayes and the others were part of a larger group providing food
for the poor. Eight other members of that group were evacuated from
the country and returned to the Palm Beach County campus three days
after the disaster.

BOY SHOT
11-year-old shot in head in GA

CHAMBLEE, GA (AP) - Police in Chamblee say an 11-year-old boy
was hospitalized after being shot in the head while he slept.
Police say the shooting happened shortly after midnight. They
say several shots were fired from the front yard into the bedroom
of the victim's 16-year-old brother, and one of the bullets went
into a second bedroom where the 11-year-old was sleeping.
The 11-year-old's name has not been released. His condition was
not immediately known.

FAIRBURN-FIRE
    Fire destroys Fairburn, Georgia building

FAIRBURN, GA (AP) - Firefighters from several jurisdictions
battled a blaze early Thursday at a century-old commercial building
in Fairburn.
Officials say the building, which housed at least 10 businesses
including a well-known pizza shop, appears to be a total loss.
Jody Weller of the Fairburn Fire Department says high winds
fanned the flames at the downtown building. The building is at the
intersection of Roosevelt Highway and Georgia Highway 92, and
traffic was diverted.
Weller says there were no sprinklers in the building.

COPPER THEFT CHARGES
3 charged with stealing copper from site

CANTON, GA (AP) - Cherokee authorities have arrested three
teens suspected in the theft of $50,000 worth of copper from a
school under construction in Canton.
Cherokee Sheriff's detectives arrested Michael Fowler and Rodney
Gravely II, both 18 years old. Authorities also arrested a
16-year-old suspect. All were charged with commercial burglary.
Detectives had received a tip that a theft of copper might take
place at the school. The construction company had been warned of
the potential theft and had locked the copper inside the school.
Police say the suspects entered the school Tuesday night by
drilling locks on the exterior doors.
Detectives responded to a home in Canton Wednesday morning where
they found the suspects and stolen copper.

RACIAL HARASSMENT
Kennesaw jailer demoted for racial remarks

KENNESAW, GA (AP) - Kennesaw is dealing with racial harassment
seven months after a lawsuit filed by minority employees was
settled for $1.8 million.
According to personnel files obtained by The Atlanta
Journal-Constitution under the state Open Records Act, Terry
Edwards was demoted from supervisor at Kennesaw's 26-bed jail
because he made racial comments to a co-worker.
The records say that Edwards, who is white, referred to jail
officer Amorelle Williams' "nappy" hair and "big lips" and said
she only had a job because of affirmative action.
The city demoted Edwards to jail officer in January, and cut his
pay 4 percent.
Kennesaw settled a racial harassment lawsuit for $1.8 million
last July. The suit was filed by two black employees in the public
works department and a Korean former public works employee.

MARY PERDUE
GA first lady leads teddy bear drive

ATLANTA (AP) - Georgia's first lady is helping to lead an effort
to collect teddy bears for children receiving care at pediatric
centers, women's shelters and law enforcement agencies.
Mary Perdue is teaming up with the Division of Child Support
Services and the Fatherhood Program.
Individuals, churches, businesses and other organizations can
participate by dropping off donations of teddy bears and other
stuffed animals at any Division of Child Support Services office
throughout the state. The stuffed animals will be distributed on
February Thursday and Friday.
State officials say they collected more than 4,000 stuffed
animals last year. They're hoping to do even better this year.
