ALBANY,GA. -- The Southern AIDS Coalition released a report Monday that states AIDS/HIV has taken hold in the Deep South.

The report says the south has more new cases than any other region but ranks last of four regions in overall funding. Dr. Craig Smith, and infectious disease doctor in Albany, says that the stereotypical AIDS/HIV patient has changed. It is no longer a great majority of homosexual white males spreading the virus but heterosexual black females.

Smith also says that much like any virus timing is everything and the sooner doctors start treating it the longer those infected will survive.
