ALBANY,GA. -- Police statewide have noticed cars abandoned by the side of the road because they ran out of gas. This is not surprising since gas prices keep hitting all-time high’s almost daily.
Dougherty county police chief Don Cheek says leaving a car roadside can accidents for both the owner of the car and other drivers. They’re also targets for theft—both the car and what’s inside.
But car experts say running on empty can do damage to your car, for instance it damages your fuel pump, which, when you add up cost of parts and labor, cost more than simply gassing up.
