ALBANY, GA -- According to a press release issued Monday afternoon, an undetermined amount of jobs will be lost in the Calhoun County medical community.

In the release, the Hospital Authority of Calhoun County said that Calhoun Memorial Hospital and R.E. Jennings Medical Clinic have seen a large increase in the amount of charity and indigent care services they provide to the public.

Authority officials say that due to the increase in those care services, state and federal governments not paying 100% of the cost to provide services to Medicaid & Medicare patients, 18% unemployment in Calhoun County, fewer commercial insurance patients using the facilities, and the loss of state subsidies has put them in a position where they might not be able to survive.

As a result, the Hospital Authority of Calhoun County has approved a plan to help the hospital and clinic meet their financial responsibility by reducing services and staff at both locations.

The hospital and and clinic say they will continue to provide services as usual to the community, but on a much smaller scale.
