AMERICUS, GA --
The Georgia Board of Regents unanimously agreed to increase tuition at 32 of the 35 university system campuses during their meeting on Tuesday.

The 2.5 percent increase for in-state undergraduate programs is the lowest in nearly ten years. Colleges will see anywhere from a $31 to a $91 increase per semester.

"Nobody's ever happy with a tuition increase. Ideally we'd like to have no increase," says Chancellor Henry Huckaby. "We were very thankful to the legislature and the governor recommending full formula funding this year but we need to increase tuition to quite frankly recapture some of the momentum we were having four years ago before all of the budget cuts."

Georgia Tech, the University of Georgia and Georgia State students will see the largest tuition hikes this year, ranging from 6 percent to 3.5 percent, or between $218 to $127 per semester.

"This approach ensures each of the research institutions can fulfill their respective academic missions while being competitively priced with their peer institutions," says Vice Chancellor for Fiscal Affairs John Brown.

The board raised tuition more than 15 percent in 2004, 2008 and in 2011.
