Celebratory gunfire leads to close call for police officer

Officials say that Officer Robert Riddle was standing next to his assigned patrol car in the parking lot of the West District on Dawson Road when a stray bullet fell from the sky and struck the windshield of the vehicle.

ALBANY, GA -- Albany police say that they received 21 calls for due to people
firing their guns
on New Year's Eve, one of which led to a close call for an officer.
Officials say that Officer Robert Riddle was standing next to his assigned patrol car in the parking lot of the West District on Dawson Road when a stray bullet fell from the sky and struck the windshield of the vehicle.
The bullet was recovered, only making a small nick in the glass near the rear view mirror. Officer Riddle was not injured and there are no suspects at this time.
Calls came in from across the city and included Nottingham Way, Whispering Pines, Habersham Road, West Lincoln Avenue, and Slater King Drive.
