“I went to a house and their lights weren't on out front so I called the house, can you turn your front porch light on? I don't want to walk up to your door because I can't see, If I can't see I'm not going to deliver the order,” said Delivery Driver Reese Hawkins.  / Sean Streicher

ALBANY, GA --
Most of us have had those days where we just don’t feel like cooking dinner, so we sit down, put up our feet and order a pizza, but what you may not realize is the dangers delivery drivers face while delivering your food.

Wednesday night, a driver was held at gun point and robbed of her cell phone and money while delivering pizza in the 400 Block of Dunes Ave in East Albany, which is something no pizza place wants to see happen to their employees.

“Our employees are our business, we don't want to lose anybody here, we want to make sure no one gets hurt, they're important to us,” said Rick Schneider, the General Manager of the Albany Dominos.

Measures are taken to ensure a drivers safety, like not allowing them to carry more than $20 during a delivery, and calling back the person placing the order to make sure the phone number and address is legitimate.

“During evening hours we even have them take they're take their toppers off, just so they're not a target,” said Schneider.

Unfortunately management can only do so much, a lot of the safety responsibility rest on the driver’s common sense.

“I went to a house and their lights weren't on out front so I called the house, can you turn your front porch light on? I don't want to walk up to your door because I can't see, If I can't see I'm not going to deliver the order,” said Delivery Driver Reese Hawkins.

So the next time you order a pizza, make sure that porch light is on and you give a real phone number to ensure your dinner gets there.
