Officers responded to the 1500 block of Dawson Road in reference to a shooting that occurred at the Merry Acres Inn.

The victim told police he went to the ice machine, around 11:30 PM, when he was approached by two black males attempting to rob him.

The victim kept walking trying to make his way back to his room but he was shot once in the back after making it inside the foyer area of the building.

Thomas Lee Bennett was taken to the hospital for further treatment. Officers remain on scene canvassing the area for the suspects. The incident remains under investigation and is being handled by the Robbery/Homicide Unit. 

Merry Acres Inn owner, Bo Henry, spoke today regarding the incident saying this should serve as a reminder that anything can happen at anytime.

"It's just a reminder that no matter where you are these things can happen. We have hundreds of security cameras, and security guards on staff and it still happened. But we'll work with the Albany Police Department and hopefully bring whoever did this to justice," said Henry.
