ALBANY, GA. --

For FOX 31's Facebook story of the day people wanted to know how much sodium should the average person take in each day.

Doctors say the recommended amount for most people is 1500 milligrams a day. That's about half a teaspoon of salt.

A High sodium diet can lead to high blood pressure, which is related to other health problems.

“A lot of times it's hidden in foods, even foods that taste sweet. Cake mixes often have a lot of salt in them,” said Julie Joiner, Registered Dietician for Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.

She says people should pay close attention to all the foods they eat, especially if it's processed foods like bacon and sausage.
