ALBANY, GA. --

With flu season quickly approaching, Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital is making an effort to lower the number of flu cases seen in southwest Georgia.

The hospital has kicked off its 2012 campaign to encourage vaccinations against the virus.

Monday flu vaccines were offered to all Phoebe employees and volunteers to promote a healthy workplace.

During a kickoff ceremony, Joel Wernick, President/CEO of Phoebe Health System, and Dr. Carlos Franco, MD, spoke to staff members about the importance vaccinations.

Hospital officials say they hope this flu initiative will encourage those in the general public to get vaccinated.
