ALBANY, GA. --

The City of Albany is now holding forums to inform the public of possible changes to their wards.

An informational forum was held Tuesday night at the Government Center.

The city has put together a new redistricting map that aims to equalize each ward by size, without diluting the black population.

Maps are now available for the public to see and comment on before going before the city commission for formal approval.

“We anticipate that the map that’s under consideration will get its first reading on the fourth Tuesday of August. It has to be read twice public ally. So that will be the end of September and then we will forward our packets to the Department of Justice,” said Albany Assistant City Manager Wes Smith, .

Those who weren't able to attend Tuesday’s hearing will have another chance to view the maps and comment on Wednesday.

The city has scheduled two more forums. The first will be held at 9:00 a.m. at Darton College and the latter will be held at 12:00 p.m. at the Government Center.
