ALBANY,GA -- Some young Albany residents got a chance to stand out for giving back to the community.

The 5th annual 40 under 40 luncheon was held Friday at the Doublegate Country Club. The luncheon highlights 40 people under the age of 40 who have been recognized by their companies and peers in the market place. Those honored received plaques.

Applications were submitted; and a panel of five judges determined the winners based on several categories; including community service and by record of accomplishment.

The event was sponsored by the Albany Herald and Emerge Albany.  Fox 31's Romney Smith was among the 40 recipients.

Albany Herald Publisher and 40 under 40 Judge John Hetzler said it helps motivate young people to do their best.

"Anybody that gets a little bit of recognition early on in their career, it helps them realize what you bring to the party. We should take advantage of that. It is something they can use for their portfolio. It helps young people realize their potential."
